Calm Etude
Written for, and performed by the Bold City Contemporary Ensemble in Fall '20.
Performance Notes:
Awareness of your personal breathing is the most important focus of this piece. A curved blue symbol is pervasive throughout the work, acting merely as a reminder to draw your attention back to your breath if your awareness strays away.
The score is keyless and transposed, so the Clarinet in Bb should sound one whole step lower.
Boxes are to be read from left to right, moving on to the next upon a definitive completion.
Conventional musical symbols retain their meaning, and graphics are to be interpreted freely.
Time indications within frames are approximations. They may be expanded or diminished as the ensemble sees fit.
Dashed gray lines depict arrival markers, often cueing the end of a frame.
Gray numbers in the top left of each box are rehearsal markers.
Score system dividers between frames play the same role as they would in metered music.
